Our New Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) System: Buckets of PRP
As many of my patients know, I truly believe that prior to October 2011, we were in the Dark Ages of Hair Restoration. Of course, we always performed great work at the Lam Institute for Hair Restoration. However, we did not have the “magic sauce”, a term I affectionately refer to PRP, or platelet rich plasma. I have been experimenting with PRP over the last two years and believe that I have found the holy grail of PRP. I am using the Angel system for PRP and what it offers is two things, quality and quantity, both of which I need. Quality wise, the Angel allows me the ability to titrate exactly the factor of platelets I want. Studies have shown that a platelet count of 1.7 to 2.5x is preferred. Anything more actually reduces the benefit of the healing factors. My previous system did not allow this level of fine-tuning or any adjustments for that matter, and I still got great results! Quantity wise, in the past I was able to get only maybe 10 to 20 cc of PRP. Now, with the new system I am having so much that I don’t know what to do with it. On average, I am yielding about 55 to 60 cc of PRP. With that quantity, I am able to pour it into the recipient bed, pour it into the donor incision (or in the case of FUE into the donor region) and soak the grafts completely in a sea of it. I am really excited to use this new system since last year, and I have been noticing much improved results so far.
